I was at The Deli to shoot some videos for Costello on Monday, January 25, 2016. I’m a huge fan of Costello and they are some local musician friends of mine. It was a really good performance. The video footage and audio are great and I’m working on releasing some songs to my youtube channel.
North by North took the stage after Costello. Regretfully, I only captured a few seconds of North by North that was on tour from Chicago. Since the North by North footage is so much shorter, I thought it would be a good test run.
Super Computer
I haven’t really used the full potential of a video editor since around 2007. At that time, I was using Premiere 6.5 on Windows 2000. Now I’m using Premiere 3.2 on Windows 7. In both cases, I was editing footage from a Canon DSLR. Why am I surprised that not much has changed with the editing software? I had to relearn a few techniques and buttons, but it was fairly quick. Why am I not surprised that I can edit and scrub without frame loss and glitchy performance? Because my graphics card has 960 CUDA cores! I don’t know exactly what that means, but it does the job very well.
This is my first time dealing with 1080p footage with a machine that can handle the h.264 codec. Everything went smoothly, and the machine was super fast. Alas, this was only a 52 second video, but render time and upload speed were good. I look forward to longer edits. My new computer has a six-core 3.33 ghz Xeon processor, 12 gb ram and a Nvidia GTX660 graphics engine. The CPU fan barely sped up during render. I think it can handle it, lol.
North by North
North by North’s music and performance were quite refreshing, rocking and quite sophisticated for a three piece.
Definitely an alternative, indie, garage band with swirling focuses of math prog rock, trippy uptempo ambient, both male and female vocals, hard hitting drums, smooth melodies, and crushing energy.
